Parenting workshops are a very important part of the Family Matters project. We like to have at least one workshop per school term. This term we focused on New Horizons in Plettenberg Bay. Masizame Centre in Plett put forward 9 families they felt were in need of our workshop. Conflict resolution; development stages of child; self-esteem, and values were the topics addressed.
Other activities demonstrated to the parents that the hurts that they felt or were feeling were being carried over to their children. The team then worked with them showing how they can change their behaviour and thereby have positive results within the family. An example is having family meetings, where parents don’t tell the children what to do but where children are encouraged to give input into family matters and where achievements are celebrated.
We are always looking for assistance with light refreshments and learning material, so please consider making a donation towards these essential workshops.
