20 Year Celebration and Fundraising Banquet

On Thursday 2 August we celebrated our 20th year of existence in Knysna –  Twenty years of making a huge impact in the communities of Knysna.  This was done by way of an amazing celebration and fundraising banquet held at Villa Castollini where YFC hosted 220 guests.

The evening started with dancers from Une’s Dance Studio who danced on the song “The Joy of the Lord is our Strength”, which was also the theme of the evening.  The guest speaker was Ed Ramsami, who is not only the CEO of Youth for Christ SA, but also a renowned international speaker. He has also contributed to a few youth development publications and hosted a community youth programme on TV. He is best known for his relational interactive, humorous, multi-media presentations and workshops and has become a firm favourite amongst people of all cultures, races and ages. He captured the audience by sharing what YFC SA stands for and what our role in our community should and could be.

Sheena Maré, YFC Knysna Board member since the inception of YFC Knysna, thanked Philip Schröder, Director of YFC Knysna, for stepping up to God’s calling 20 years ago and said that it was a brave move, stepping out into uncharted territory and answering many parents’ prayers for the establishment of a branch of Youth for Christ in our town. She said “YFC Knysna have come a long way since those early days! I want to thank the wonderful Knysna community for their prayers and support that ensured that YFC are still in operation 20 years later!” She also said that because of Philip’s passion for the youth and this ministry, he went to great lengths to ensure that YFC’s doors stayed open. She remarked that he must have a ‘Master’s degree’ in how to complete a successful application form for funding and source funds for the various projects of YFC. Sheena concluded by saying “Through all the years, Philip has led this ministry with passion, wisdom, total commitment, enthusiasm and empathy!”

Director of YFC Knysna, Philip Schröder, shared on the successes and challenges of the past 20 years and also the vision and dreams of the YFC Knysna Team for the next couple of years.

The MC for the evening was well-known ex-horse racing commentator, Francois Wolfaardt, and the guests enjoyed his humorous way and love for people that exuded from him.

Mickey Louw from Mix Academy Entertainment did an excellent job with the sound and lighting and his experience in big functions like this was evident.

A wonderful talented young girl from Oakhill High School in Knysna, Tessa Micic, entertained the guests throughout the evening showcasing her talent on harp and violin.

The result of the evening was clear to all that attended and that was that YFC is one of Knysna’s “best kept secrets”. It was clear that throughout the 20 years many young lives, as well as those of their families, were impacted by the positive influence, love and care from the YFC Team. Lives were changed for the positive, young people were and are being uplifted and upskilled and one of these youngsters, Vogan Marais, shared his story which was, for most of the guests, the highlight of the evening.

Thank you to all the underwriters, table hosts, guests and volunteers who were involved in making this Celebration and Fundraising Banquet a huge success!

All glory and thanks to God for His faithfulness, love and presence. This is all for and because of Him!
