OPTIONS CARE CENTRE

black-mother-baby_SMALLOptions Care Centre offers a variety of counselling and support services including Crisis Pregnancy Support, HIV/Aids Support, Support Groups, Schools & Community Outreach and Training. Our purpose for Options is to give woman and men who are facing pregnancy and HIV crises a place where they can come away from the distractions of the world, to look clearly at the real issues and facts.

DEVELOPING HEALTHY INDIVIDUALS

Compassion, emotional and physical support and the knowledge of Jesus Christ form the basis of our care. Our mission is to develop healthy individuals and families by providing support and information to those facing pregnancy and HIV crises, empowering them physically emotionally, mentally and spiritually. We also facilitate preventative programs at various schools assisting youth with decision-making and life-skills.

CRISIS PREGNANCY SUPPORT
Finding yourself pregnant when you hadn’t planned to be can be very stressful and easily complicated by family tension, broken relationships, financial and health concerns, and school or career pressure. You may be worried about the reaction of your family, friends or employer and this can lead to impulsive and uninformed decisions.

At Options Care Centre we reach out and serve pregnant women and their families in this time of crisis. Many women pass through our doors on a weekly basis where they find love, support and counselling. We provide a safe, neutral space for you to explore your options and make the right decisions.

Your counsellor won’t tell you what to do or try to influence you but will support you in thinking through your situation and deciding what you feel is best for you. Counselling is a safe space for you to express your thoughts without worrying about what anyone will think.

All our full time and volunteer counsellors are fully trained in crisis pregnancy counselling.  All sessions are treated confidentially.

HIV/AIDS SUPPORT
HIV/Aids continues to be a problem across South Africa and many people are still concerned about the stigma associated with the diagnosis. Options Care Centre offers a safe place for you to deal with the psychological impact of living with HIV/Aids. Our counsellors will offer you counselling and information on treatment options, support groups and risky behaviours associated with HIV transmission. Feel valued and support – not alone in this.

TRAIN THE TRAINERS
The Options program is affiliated to Africa Cares for Life who assist us in keeping our counsellors up-to-date with information and trends through literature, training and an annual conference.

NEED COUNSELLING?

TEENAGE & SINGLE MOMS SUPPORT GROUP
Being a parent is the most rewarding yet difficult job anyone can face. As a single parent you may feel completely alone and unable to handle the task. But you are not alone as our support group is there to offer you the necessary support and advice on how to cope. Young mothers get together each week to share their stories and take comfort from each other in a safe protected environment. Topical and relevant issues are addresses together with the necessary guidance to overcome these challenges

MOTHER & DAUGHTER SUPPORT GROUP
No matter how strong the bond between a mother and a daughter is, there are often tensions and unresolved issues that need to be addressed. Teachers play an important role in identifying the need for intervention and call on our services to assist them. These mother and daughter support groups can take on the form of one-on-one sessions or camps for larger groups. Through these support groups, both the parent and child are equipped with the necessary tools and guidance to work through their issues and start the process of healing.

HIV/AIDS SUPPORT GROUP
Options Care Centre facilitates support groups for those infected or affected by HIV/Aids. Those affected by HIV/Aids need to feel accepted and loved, regardless of their status, and these support groups offer them the platform to voice their opinions and express their feelings in a safe and trusted environment.

WANT TO JOIN A SUPPORT GROUP?

Call us on 044 382 7474 or 076 916 5636 to find a support group closest to you

Options Care Centre is taking the Message of Hope to the community though our outreach programmes. Sexual integrity of our clients is encouraged and strengthened by expressing the gift of sexuality throughout life in a true, honest and pure way. These take place quarterly in the form of rallies, community awareness campaigns and workshops in the communities where the prevalence rate of HIV /Aids and teenage pregnancy are very high.

SCHOOLS
Each week Grade 7 girls from a local primary school get the opportunity to learn about sexual integrity, the risks of HIV/AIDS, and the many other issues facing them. In a safe and nurturing environment, these young women are equipped to deal with these challenges and make the right decisions for their future.

Because young girls are inquisitive, we encourage them to ask questions in the open forum as well as make use of private discussions with our highly trained counsellors.

FAMILY PLANNING CLINICS
Our counsellors spend time each week with young women at local family planning clinics and the maternity ward of the provincial hospital to share information, pray and counsel those in need. They are made aware of the services available through Options Care Centre and given literature to help with education.

ARE YOU A SCHOOL TEACHER?

Would you like us to visit your school and do a presentation to your learners on Sexual Integrity? If so, call Ghila to make arrangements.

Will you tell my parents?

Counselling is a confidential process.  What is said in the room stays in the room unless you agree otherwise. The Counsellor may consult with supervisors to improve their skills to provide the highest quality of service to you, but this is done without revealing your identity.

Except in a situation where you are a danger to yourself or others, or where counsellors or agencies have a legal obligation to inform appropriate authorities, your information is strictly confidential.

Do I have to pay?

There is no charge for our services. However, Options Care Centre is a program run by Youth for Christ Knysna which is a non-profit organisation.  We are responsible for our own funding. Should you wish to make a donation, click here.

Can I just drop in?

No. We do not currently run a drop in service. Please call for an appointment on 044 382 7474 or 076 916 5636. No. We are a not medical centre; you will need to contact your GP to arrange a scan at the hospital. There are private clinics available that offer scans, though there is a cost involved. We offer counselling and support.
